back home

We're home! We had a great visit with our family back east, and now we're recovering from our travels. We all have colds to varying degrees, and we're exhausted, and it was worth it all to see family we don't get to see very often.

Pics are coming, I'm uploading them all to Flickr now and will be able to blog them tomorrow (I'm not waiting for them tonight, it's bed time). I got a GREAT one of Baby G with his Grandfather, and I can't wait to share it with you all. Thanksgiving was a feast and a blast, and I have some shots from that I'd like to share as well. If you have a flickr account and have been added to my friends/family list, you can go and check them out right now. Or you can wait 'til I blog them and then just click on them to see more.

Of course Baby G chose this past week to accomplish all sorts of things:
  • He rolled over at the Dallas airport during a layover. Throughout the rest of the week he mostly toyed with us, but managed to roll around quite a bit, tucking his knees up to his chest and tumbling around without really rolling over. He managed to cover some distance. Of course he would do this the week we were traveling without a bed for him. We made a "nest" out of pillows to contain him while he was sleeping.
  • He also decided he was done being swaddled. We've been swaddling him at night to keep him from waking himself up with his startle reflex. He had none of that while we were gone, and has taken to sleeping on his side. It's the cutest thing, seeing him curled up on his side, often clutching a blanket or lovey in his tiny arms. I'll have to get a shot of that to post here.
  • He discovered he has feet! Amazed by his discovery, he promptly put them in his mouth.
  • He got his first cold. And handled it well, and is recovering nicely. It was bound to happen, and fortunately it didn't affect our travels much at all.
  • He outgrew just about every article of clothing I brought for him! I swear, this stuff fit him when we left! Thank goodness SIL set aside some of her boy's clothes in a size larger than I had brought for Baby G. The bunting sac I got him just before we left had a one inch gap between the bottom of the jacket and the top of the snap-on sac! His turtleneck I brought to go with a sweater was WAY too small for him, and the overalls I had for his Thanksgiving outfit were a joke. Can anyone say "growth spurt"?
  • He had his first train ride with Grandfather! Pics to come!

A wonderful trip. I'm so sad we live so far away from these people, and glad that technology has progressed to the point that photo updates and conversations are just the push of a button away. We'll see my husband's brother and his family in a couple of months when we go to meet more family in Orlando (Disney!). It will be bittersweet to see how much the children change in three months.
